Vintage Indigo Egasuri Cotton
A vintage indigo 'egasuri' cotton from the early 20th century.
Kasuri is the Japanese term for ikat, and E translates to picture or drawing. When these two words are combined it is pronounced egasuri meaning kasuri-woven pictures.
This piece features three different motifs, one of which resembles a crosshatch, inspired by a wooden well curb—a symbol of safety and the well-being of one's family. There are some small patches and a joint.
