Vintage Indigo Tsutsugaki Cotton Furoshiki

A large four-paneled 'furoshiki' (wrapping cloth) with a 'tsutsugaki' dyed 'noshi' motif from the early 20th century. Tsutsugaki is a Japanese resist dyeing technique that uses rice paste for freehand drawing on cloth. This piece was originally given as a wedding gift from the bride's parents to their daughter when she was getting married. The large noshi motif represents longevity.
